As many as 600 students, who are among the last batch to be evacuated from Sumy University, reached Poland on Thursday.

The Embassy of India in Kyiv, Ukraine on Wednesday had said in an official statement that these students were evacuated by train and moved to the west of Ukraine to take them to safety. These students have now reached Poland from where they will be flown to India by Air India flights under Operation Ganga.

The students reached Lviv in western Ukraine from Poltava on another special train. To reach Poltava, these students traveled in 13 buses, escorted by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Preparations to bring students out of Sumy to Paltova commenced on Tuesday. The official spokesperson of the ministry of external affairs confirmed that all students have been successfully evacuated. Previous attempts to help these students failed as the Russia-announced ceasefire on humanitarian grounds to evacuate civilians to safety was not adhered to.

For several weeks now, these students who were put up on the university campus posted several videos on social media urging the ministry of external affairs and prime minister Narendra Modi to facilitate a safe evacuation.
