During a school trip to a resort, a seven-year-old girl heavily fractured her thigh after she fell off a play equipment. The incident happened at the Odyssey resort in Kanakapur. The child is a 2nd standard student of RNS Vidyaniketan on Chord Road in Vijayanagar.

The child’s father Ramachandra is a software engineer and a resident of Basaveshwara Layout in Chandra Layout. He alleged that the resort paid the school Rs 50,000 to suppress the incident.

Ramachandra added that he got a call from the school around 11.30 am informing him that his daughter was injured and has been admitted to Manipal Hospital in Malleswaram. The doctors told him that his daughter’s right thigh bone was broken and needed to undergo surgery the following day.

The school had initially said that they would take care of the medical expenses but after she was discharged, they were nowhere to be seen. Ramachandra had to pay Rs 1.75 lakh more than his insurance cover for the surgery. 

The child’s parents tried to know more about how she had fallen off the equipment. They later learned that since the school had taken too many kids to the resort, it was crowding the place. Hence, the resort’s employees were nudging the kids from the top of a bouncy castle and slide, which is when the child fell.

Ramachandra further added that he doesn’t know whether is daughter fell on the balloon or on the ground. He had called up the resort asking for CCTV footage but they stated they did not have one. 

Another 8th standard kid also got hurt and received first aid at the hospital. 

Ramachandra said, “The manager told me that the resort owner and he had paid the school Rs 50,000 and if I wanted more money, I could come with the school principal to the resort and he could and speak to his boss about the money.”

He approached the Chandra Layout police to file a complaint. The police have booked the RNS Vidyaniketan headmistress and teachers along with the resort manager and owner under IPC section 338 – causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others.
