The Karnataka state education department has stated that all exam centres serving as venues for the class X Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations will be thoroughly sanitized three days prior to the commencement of the board exams. This, among the several other measures, are enlisted in the standard operating protocols for the SSLC exams to be conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examinations Board (KSEEB) between June 21 and July 5. Preparations are underway to ready examination centres for students.
Sumangala V, director, KSEEB said that the guidelines issued for the 2020 exams will be followed in 2021 as well. Moreover Suresh Kumar, minister for primary and secondary education, had said that in order to maintain social distancing in exam halls, only 18-20 students will be seated in every classroom.
The guidelines also call for reserving two classrooms in every centre as ‘special rooms’. Should a student writing the exams display Covid-19 symptoms such as cough, cold or fever, she will be seated in the special room. Students coming from containment zones will also be seated in special rooms.
While in other classrooms, two students will be allowed to be seated on a bench, the distance between the benches being over 1 mt, in the special rooms, only one student per bench is to be seated and a 5mt distance is to be kept between benches.
The standard operating procedure also mandates that invigilators use sanitizer before distributing question papers or additional answer scripts to students. Mass gathering of students post-exams will not be allowed.
The guidelines also say that if a student tests positive during or just before exams, they will be permitted to take re-exams and yet, it will be regarded as their first attempt during the announcement of results.
