Online parenting Summit (OPS) 2021 elaborates on various methods of parenting, a celebration of parenthood. The summit helps to reboot parenting and develop a friendly relationship between parents and their children. The concept of OPS is to create an impact on parents and their parenting styles. OPS aims to touch the universe and beyond, impact every generation that may come further. Until now, people practiced parenting in their own traditional ways but OPS tries to bring in modern ways in which one can make parenting experience much more fun yet unique.

Here is the story of Shaheen Shahid Budani, mother of two-year-old Azlaan Budani, who talks about her journey as a parent.

I was a part of the Online Parenting Summit 2020. I live in Hyderabad with my husband and in-laws. The most prominent thing that I learned from the summit was time management and to be patient with my child.

I stumbled upon Online Parenting Summit and EducationWorld and am glad that it came my way. Let me tell you how well it worked for me and why I vouch for it so strongly to all the parents out there.

After giving birth to Azlaan, I experienced postpartum depression, I could not calm him while he cried nor was I able to understand what’s happening around me. I broke down because this is not how I wanted to raise my kid; I started doubting myself as a mother and started thinking that I am failing as a mother. This continued till he became a toddler. I wondered whether I could take up this role. My capability of thinking critically had stopped since I lost out on enough hours of sleep, did not feel like eating, and did not feel like looking at him or playing with him. I used to just sprawl in bed on the phone or sometimes staring at the ceiling. I was on the go nagging him, yelling at him, shouting at him.

One day, while surfing through my Instagram account, the first voice that fell on my ear was, don’t blame yourself for being a parent. For a moment I wondered did I just say it to myself or am I hallucinating? I flipped over grabbed my cell phone, which directed me to this page called Online Parenting Summit!

As much I didn’t expect I saw a small baby cooing, next to which sat an overworked and tired mother. But just looked at the baby and sprang up to hold her child and said “we’ll pass this through, together”. I glanced through certain tricks and tips which, encouraged me to support my child and to explore more than my potential, as a parent.

Today my baby is a toddler and I am so proud I came over this. Every kid requires the right guidance but it does not mean that you can mold them by forcing them to be who they aren’t. I experienced this throughout this pandemic and I saw my toddler growing very closely. I did not want his upbringing to be like mine or mediocre in any way. I wanted to give my best being a mother. Online Parenting Summit helped me greatly. My awakening as a mother happened when I realized that saying no like a nagging mom 24×7 is not the right way of parenting. Scolding, shouting, discharging all the anger and frustration on my son was not the appropriate way to deal with any situation. It eventually created a negative impact on his upbringing.

I made small changes in myself and my parenting style, by watching parenting coaches talk about various situations and experiences through the online parenting summit and gave my child the freedom to explore everything around me. Well, unless and until he stays away from any physical harm, I tried to connect with him, joined him while he played coloured, discovered sounds of the different objects, crumbled sand, splashed water and did every fun activity that I could do. I realized that discharging all the frustration on my kid was not the right idea. What can be more hurtful as a parent to see your child cry all along the nights, craving for love and affection? I decided to learn calm parenting and everything changed.

My son has made me proud always. Once, he identified all the alphabets and numbers till 20 including opposite words at the age of 18 months. I went to my friend’s place and there he just started reading her cars number plate. I got appreciation from everyone around stating that he is a smart kid and you did a good job in raising him. A compliment like this seems helpful and motivating when you are parenting.

I got control over my frustration as he grew up. We started spending time together, playing, hugging, kissing, showing all the love and affection that ever existed. We read together, learned different things and tried doing all the activities that made our bond stronger. This is the parenting style I followed and now, and we are living the best life together. Letting my child free to explore whatever he wants, made me move closer to him. Authoritative parenting doesn’t help your child grow; it’s as bad as a fork to your soup.

I am glad to have a platform that taught me various things that my regular life couldn’t. It is time to change from traditional parenting towards modern parenting, and hence, I would highly recommend you to be a part of the online parenting summit.
