Classes for the first PU have commenced across Bengaluru even as CBSE students are still awaiting their class 10 results, giving parents an anxious time.

Students who are awaiting CBSE class 10 results have availed provisional admissions in PU colleges. While in some colleges, seats are still available for these students, the others have made temporary admissions and commenced classes as well. Most PU Colleges commenced classes in the first week of June. 

In the MES Kisore Kendra PU College in Malleshwaram for instance, admissions have been completed and aspiring parents have been asked to meet the principal if need be.

At the time of admission, parents have been given an option to pay ‘registration fee’ instead of the ‘admission fee’ while they await the results. Once the results have been announced, a seat would be confirmed if the student passes the exam.

Ramesh Rao, a parent who sought admission at a college in south Bengaluru said, “We are told that colleges typically reserve a 5 % quota of seats for students whose results have not been announced. Provisional admissions are given based on the term exams and previous year’s score. Classes have also commenced in a lot of places. Our seat, however, is not confirmed in the college where we applied. It is an anxious wait for the results,” he explained.

Similarly, parents expressed on social media sites that there was uncertainty over the seat confirmation in case a student does not clear exams.

Dr M Srinivasan, founder of Gear International School and the President of Managements of Independent CBSE Schools Association said that it would be impractical to wait for board results to come out.

“Even CBSE class 11 classes have commenced. Most schools have winded admissions. It is an abnormal situation that warrants abnormal reaction. Infact, students not getting results before commencement of class 11 or PU has become routine. The question is about how admissions are made. Generally, the previous scores of a student are considered for this,” he said.
