A portion of the Nalapad Academy, an international school in Bengaluru’s flood affected Mahadevpura Assembly Constituency has been razed down for allegedly encroaching a storm water drain.

On Wednesday, the boundary wall of this educational institution and a portion of the land which was encroached upon was cleared by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials.

“In Mahadevapura assembly constituency’s Challagatta, Nalapad Academy had encroached Survey No.70, and now its clearing work has been initiated by BBMP and revenue department officials,” tweeted the MLA of Mahadevpura assembly constituency Aravind Limbavali adding, “In my constituency limits, if anyone has encroached rajakaluve (storm water drain), I request them to immediately vacate it.”

This came after Limbavali met with Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai to assess the level of damage caused by encroachments of storm water drains earlier this week.

Although the academy’s authorities refused to comment, sources in the academy told EducationWorld that the institute was being targeted as it is managed by members of the opposition Indian national congress in Karnataka. “Classes are being carried on as usual as we do not want the routines of students to be impacted. It is best to keep politics and education apart,” commented one of the sources.

Meanwhile, founder director of the Nalapad Academy, who is also the MLA of Shantinagar assembly constituency from the Indian National Congress, NA Harris said in a media statement on Tuesday that there was no documents produced to show the storm water drain on the map, its origin and end. “If it is necessary and encroachment has happened, let them produce sufficient evidence and I will get them cleared on my own. I have not come in the way of the authorities’ work.”

Among the other schools, a portion of Gopalan School as well was razed down for alleged encroachment in the same area.
