Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has been making headlines ever since a section of students of the public central university have been protesting against the appointment of Feroz Khan as an assistant professor of Sanskrit in the university. Khan, on the other hand, has now applied to teach the language in other faculties of the university to end the ongoing unrest.

A PhD in Sanskrit, Jaipur-based professor Khan, whose appointment was opposed by the students of Sanskrit Vidya Dharam Vigyan (SVDV) department, has now applied for the same post in the Sanskrit department of the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Ayurveda.

According to reports, the professor will quit the SVDV department were he to be selected in either, or both of the two departments he has applied to. However, he is said to be keen on joining the Arts Faculty as the students there have no problem with a Muslim teaching them Sanskrit. Additionally, it is also said that joining the Ayurveda department would mean deviating from his field of interest as well as area of expertise.

The SVDV students who protested against the appointment of Khan had said on multiple occasions that they did not find a Muslim fit to teach them about Sanatan Dharma and Karmkaand, as he was not connected with their culture. The students, who have continued to boycott their classes, have warned that they will resume their strike if their demands are not met in 10 days.
