The first edition of the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) have been announced and they are clashing with NEET-UG examinations.
CUET-UG will be spread over 10 days, starting from July 15 to August 10. NEET-UG has been scheduled for July 17, 2022. There would be no CUET-UG exams on July 17, 2022, an official notification by NTA said.
Students have demanded more time to prepare for NEET-UG. Twitter users have raised a campaign alert using the hashtags #JusticeforNEETUG and #DharmendraPradhanHelpUs, tagging the education minister to draw his attention.

In their petition, they said the counselling of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate)-UG 2021 ended just in March, and the 2022 edition is scheduled on July 17.
“How are we to revise such a vast syllabus in just 3 months? Moreover, other important exams like the Board Exams, CUCET, JEE Mains are also scheduled around the same time. Imagine the trauma and pressure we students are having to go through with all these significant exams scheduled one after the other. Is this a fair decision?” the petition demanded.
The last year’s exam was initially scheduled for August 1 but was postponed to September 12 due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“So much stress in the last days of exams. I’m losing my hope. No one wants to hear, no one wants to help us, no one wants to understand us. We, the aspirants, are in great trouble. Please postpone the NEET-UG,” said Sanjana Gupta, an aspirant.
According to Anubha Srivastava, a lawyer and the president of the India Wide Parents’ Association, NEET and Common University Entrance Test (CUET), are happening at the same time causing inconvenience to students.
“NEET must be held after JEE MAINS so that students can prepare well. Already the session is not going to start before Feb 2023 for NEET Aspirants as the counselling will take time,” she said.
Over 11 lakh candidates have registered for the first edition of CUET.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar had in March announced that CUET scores, and not Class 12 marks, would be mandatory for admission to 45 central universities, and that the central universities can fix their minimum eligibility criteria.
He had also clarified that students from state boards will not be at a disadvantage in the undergraduate admission process and the exam will not give a push to the coaching culture.
A total of 44 central universities, 12 state universities, 11 deemed universities, and 19 private universities have applied for participating in the first edition of CUET for UG admissions in the 2022-23 academic session.
According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the test, the CUET will provide a single-window opportunity to students seeking admission in any central university across the country.
The exam will be conducted in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. It will be held in 13 languages — Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Odiya, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, English, Hindi and Urdu.
Additionally, a candidate can also pick from 19 other languages such as French, German, Japanese, Russian, Bodo and Santhali.
