Delhi Government has decided to start 20 Schools of Specialized Excellence by August 15. Specialized Excellence Schools will be for students from class 9th to 12th. This includes eight schools of STEM, five schools of Humanities and 21st Century High End Skills and two schools of Visual and Performing Arts. In these schools, students from class 9th to 12th will be admitted through an aptitude test in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), humanities, visual and performing arts and 21st century high end skills. The School of Specialized Excellence will be affiliated with the Delhi Board of School Education.

The scheme has been approved in the second general body meeting of Delhi School of Specialized Excellence and Delhi Board of School Education Society, chaired by Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday. Sisodia said that in the next two years, around 100 Schools of Specialized Excellence will be started across Delhi. Each educational zone will have four types of specialized schools so that children from all parts of Delhi can reach their neighborhood specialized schools. There will be 30 government schools in Delhi for the year 2021-22 in DBACE. In this, 10 general schools will be registered in DBSE and 20 schools of specialized excellence will be registered.

Sisodia further added that in these schools, attention will be given to the overall development of the students, so that after leaving the students can take admission in selected and best higher education institutions of the country and abroad. He said that in the pilot phase, the Schools of Specialized Excellence in Humanities, Visual and Performing Arts and 21st Century High End Skills schools will take admissions in class 9, while in STEM schools, admissions will be taken for both classes 9th and 11th. Students wanting admission in these schools will have to go through a screening process where they will get an aptitude test for admission.
