On day one of the Senior School Leaving Certificate Examinations (SSLC), 97.59% students appeared for the exams. Barring a few instances where students were asked not to sport a Hijab while entering the exam hall, the examinations were conducted in a peaceful manner.

Out of 8,69,399 students who had enrolled for exams, 8,48,405 students appeared for exams on Monday, the first day of the class 10 state board exams.

No malpractice cases were reported in any of the 3,444 centres where the exams were conducted. No Covid-19 positive student took the exams either.

In an unfortunate turn of events, at Vidyodava school’s exam hall in T Narasipura, a class 10 student who had appeared for exams collapsed in the exam hall. 16-year-old Anushree who was later rushed to the hospital failed to respond to any treatment and died later.

Reports over some students indulging in a tussle with invigilators in Shivamogga emerged.  One girl from a government high school in the district entered the exam hall wearing a hijab only to be sent back by the management and invigilator. Convinced by her parents, she later took off the Hijab and continued writing exams.

It may be recalled that in a government order on Saturday, the state government had reminded students only to appear in uniforms as prescribed by school managements or their school development monitoring committees.

To put students at ease in examination halls, Primary and secondary education minister BC Nagesh visited the government high school at Agrahara Dasarahalli at Magadi Road in Bengaluru and handed roses to them.
