The Karnataka High Court has asked the state government to file an affidavit by Wednesday evening assuring that all questions for class 5 and 8 annual assessments will be taken from the state-prescribed textbooks only.

The court heard the matter on Tuesday and has asked the government to submit the affidavit. A senior level official, either secretary or commissioner has been asked to submit the same.

This comes after the Registered Unaided Private Schools Association approached the court stating that the model question papers published by the Karnataka Secondary Examination and Assessments Board (KSEAB) had questions from Kalika Cetarike programme, which was not prescribed to the state’s private schools.

Kalika Chetarike was a specially designed curriculum prescribed to government school students to make up for the Covid-19 pandemic induced learning loss.

A division bench of the court comprising Justice G Nagender and Justice Ashok S Kinagi adjourned the hearing to Wednesday. Additional advocate-general Dyan Chinnappa is representing the state in this case while advocate K V Dhananjaya is representing the petitioner.

Dhananjaya submitted to the court that students in private unaided schools had not studied the Kalika Chetarike booklets and that the textbooks by Karnataka Textbooks Society did not include several aspects from the same.

Meanwhile, parents have also impleaded to be heard in the matter.
