Erstwhile headquarters of the Peshwas (prime ministers) of the Maratha Empire, Pune is the largest city (516.18 sq. km.) in Maharashtra and the ninth most populated city in India (pop.6.8 million). Fringed by the Sahayadri mountain ranges and situated at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha rivers, Pune enjoys a moderate climate throughout the year.
In the last few decades, with the sprouting of information technology (IT), engineering and automotive companies, Pune has emerged as a major startup hub. Also the second largest academic and industrial hub (after Mumbai) of Maharashtra, Pune hosts many colleges and universities and has been aptly titled “The Oxford of the East”.
