The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recently revised the syllabus for some of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It has been revised based on the Learning Outcomes Based Curriculum Framework (LOCF). The courses for which the syllabus has been updated includes B.Sc Botany, BA General Criminology, English as an elective, BA Hons English Literature, Bachelors in Library and Information Science, BA/B.Sc Mathematics, B.Sc Physics and BA/B.Sc Psychology. Postgraduate programmes for Human Rights and Anthropology has been revised as well.

The UGC issued a notice on August 7, 2019, which directed all the central institutions to form a subject-specific committee to implement the LOCF. It stated that the fundamental premise of LOCF is to specify what the students completing the programme are expected to know, understand and be able to do by the end of the course. The new curriculum is set to help students become active learners and make the teachers more effective facilitators, thus laying the foundation of lifelong learning.

The idea behind the framework is to decide the desired outcome within the framework of the presently followed Choice Based Credit System for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The UGC has designed the syllabus based on skills, knowledge, understanding, employability, graduate attributes, attitudes, and values that are gained by the students after completing the programme.
