With over 1.29 lakh students enrolled in it, the Student Police Cadet (SPC) Programme is making waves in Uttar Pradesh. More than 11,000 schools in UP have implemented the SPC programme, which includes a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, taught by teachers of social sciences and physical education, as well as police officers who teach traffic control and laws. 

 

Launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2018, the SPC programme seeks to build responsible and capable citizens who can contribute positively to society by inculcating values and ethics in school-going students.

 

The programme is a two-year-long capacity-building initiative for students in the 8th and 9th standards, with a focus on building a bridge between the police and the community. 

 

Under this programme, students are taught respect for the law, civic sense, empathy for vulnerable sections of society, and resistance to social evils. The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) has developed the curriculum for the SPC programme, and 179 master trainers have been trained through five workshops.

 

The SPC programme in Uttar Pradesh is overseen by DG training, Sanjay M Tarade, who has appointed a committee under the principal secretary home to ensure that the programme runs smoothly. A monthly review is conducted to track the progress of the programme.

With over 1.29 lakh students enrolled in the SPC programme in UP, it is evident that the programme is making a significant impact in building responsible and capable citizens who can contribute positively to society.
